Should I upload pixiv/other when similar quality twitter post exists?

Posted under General

We have post xyz. The source is twitter.
Now let's assume that on pixiv/deviantart/other there is similar quality picture. Should I upload it and set it as a parent to twitter one? What are the rules on multiple sources? I've seen others do it and frankly I also did do this but what is really the point of this if twitter source is "good enough"?

It's old habit, back when Twitter would compress images to crap. I believe Twitter stopped auto-compressing images now, so uploading the Pixiv version or determining the proper parent post doesn't really matter anymore.

So I should skip uploading the non-twitter version unless it's noticeably better?

If it has the same resolution and file size as the original and you can't perceive any change in quality, I'd say just let whatever came first stay, the later post would essentially just be a redundant duplicate (and I suppose could be perfectly identical to the first).

As a future thought though, would there be any benefit to cross linking to a pixiv id somehow as a non-source to be able to hit the corresponding comments, commentary, tags and other metadata on that side (they are usually different than on Twitter). Would it be better to let people that want to find such duplicates to just use SauceNao or the like?

post #4007705 1.04 MB Pixiv & post #4001074 224 KB Twitter - Although the post was published in July 2020, but the twitter version has a higher compression, it makes sense to publish the post.
If you see images that are similar in size and of the same resolution, download them and compare the quality. Compare checksums of files (description is in md5_mismatch).

If, after the performed checks, make sure that the image is worthy of loading and is not a duplicate (including with a similar compression level without loss of quality), then you can upload the image.
Please note that even with seemingly better quality images sometimes do not pass the test, so the final decision on the uploads remains with the user, who in this case risks losing the uploads rating. I have had a couple of such uploads where the quality in my opinion was better, but not a guaranteed source and the opinion of approvers led to a negative result of uploads "duplicates".

If you have twitter and pixiv posts that have same resolution, but the pixiv post is 0.1MB~ or so larger in filesize, is it considered superior enough to be uploaded?

Sorry for bumbing old thread, but i think this is worth clarifying.

In that case it's most likely a duplicate, if you can't see any difference that would make it a revision. If you're still unsure you can use a site like https://duplicatebooru.herokuapp.com/ to tell you if it's a duplicate.

No, it'd be a duplicate at that point. There should be a significant difference in file size and/or resolution.
