Direct sequel. An atelier_ryza_2 -> atelier_(series) implication won't be necessary since atelier_ryza already has it.

Just do the copyright + the character.
That's how the the_legend_of_zelda:_breath_of_the_wild_2 princess_zelda search is handled (she has short hair as opposed to long hair in BotW1).
In fact, the whole Zelda series is treated like this: You add the copyright for getting a certain character's design, be it Link or Zelda.

The issue is that that doesn't work in reverse. All BotW2 posts are also tagged BotW1, so if you wanted to specifically search for Zelda's BotW1 design, you need three tags, because the_legend_of_zelda:_breath_of_the_wild princess_zelda would also include all BotW2 Zeldas.
I'm also fairly certain the entire Zelda series isn't treated like this, because most of the games aren't implicated to more than just the the legend of zelda umbrella tag, so this issue doesn't even come up.

That's true.
And I recall being against the implication of BotW2 to BotW1, probably because of this.
Yes, the games are prequel and sequel but it's odd that the sequel implies a prequel.

In my opinion, the original tag in that in all other such series should get there own tag, kind of like what was done with the Idolmaster series with the Idolmaster_(classic) and Idolmaster_1 tags. Then the Atelier_Ryza tag would act as an umbrella tag for this particular lineup of games.

I made that request knowing that we connect standalone sequels like Final Fantasy X-2, Tales of Xillia 2 or Gyakuten Kenji 2 to the original game.
Upon further searching though, it seems these examples are rather rare since series tend to run for three or more entries. Likewise, I can't say if Atelier Ryza 2 will be standalone or is part of a trilogy (or further) since it was just announced. Given the popularity of the original game, I wonder if the implication will cause a lot of tagging noise.
