That's not right either. Flex is a set of technologies including Flash and Ajax and such that aim to make the creation of rich internet application things (e.g. Gmail) somewhat less complicated. In other words, it's buzzwordville.

Er... Flex is the set of technologies, created by Adobe, that make writing dynamic "ajax-like" Flash app's easier for developers since Flash is traditionally animation oriented. It uses an offshoot of XML and Actionscript, plus some other technologies, for development. I guess the proper coined term is Rich Internet Application.
Flex does not use AJAX. AJAX has basically the same purpose, dynamic applications, but they are not the same. Flex is considered among the alternatives to AJAX.
