Discussion on M.U.G.E.N character tags

I've compiled a list of most currently-tagged touhou-inspired M.U.G.E.N characters in a m.u.g.e.n touhou -sendai_hakurei_no_miko search. There are many untagged ones, and I'm not sure if i missed any currently-tagged characters. I'm unsure if other series have had original M.U.G.E.N character artworks uploaded, so i decided to compile a list of only touhou at the moment.

There was also The iron of yin and yang, which was apparently a big series which spawned a lot of cross-over artworks. The legend of gluttony, according to it's wiki, is correlated.

My question is, what should be done about these character tags?
Some of the mugen characters don't tag the original characters, or the mugen tag itself. Should they imply both mugen and the original inspirations? Aliasing them and calling it a day is also an option, but it would make most artworks devoid of context.

If we want to keep them, should they appear in the List of Touhou characters wiki or should they appear in a wiki page of their own, maybe alongside other characters from other series?

If we want to be consistent, someone should tag all of the missing character tags. This is somewhat hard, since that would need a research of a 10+-years-old almost-completely-dead fandom.

It seems like a number of your listed characters, like onimiko and meimu, were not originally created as MUGEN characters but simply have MUGEN characters associated with them. I would say that, just like any random character with a MUGEN version (for example ronald mcdonald), they should not be associated with the m.u.g.e.n tag by default unless the context of the picture makes it clear it was inspired by MUGEN.

Of course, due to the research problem you mentioned it may be difficult to untangle which fan characters are MUGEN originals when it's not already mentioned on our wiki, and there's room for debate about my above suggestion if a character's popularity within MUGEN has totally eclipsed its popularity in any other context. It's gonna be a mess, but the reality of the situation is a mess.

I was thinking more of a general "mugen character tags" list, since i've seen things like neo_dio. The problem here would be mainly scouring through 2.5k posts to see all character tags and untagged characters. For the former, i believe a script could be made to find all character tags present in a certain tag search. The latter needs research, and i'm not sure how worth it it would be, since i doubt people will be searching for these characters. It would definitely help with cataloguing though.
