Questions regarding bass and guitar depictions

Cutting to straight to the point.

Given that:

• Bass guitars/electric basses aren't a real fork of guitars, rather being created as a shrunken version of the upright/double bass for easier use.
• Their difference in terms of body, sound (might not matter as much here) and way of playing.
• How someone would easily differentiate a bass from a guitar (and might not even consider it a guitar).
• The presence of a tag to specifically differentiate bass guitars from actual guitars, electric or acoustic (bass_guitar).

Shouldn't bass_guitar be used solely for identifying said instruments as opposed to pairing it with guitar?
In my opinion this would also avoid confusion and/or trouble when for example someone searches guitar only to have a good amount of images with solely basses blocking their view. I would really like to hear your opinion on this since it has honestly rubbed me off a little and I truly think it would be a helpful thing for tagging and differentiating said tags to avoid duplication.

Also quick tangent that doesn't fit the topic well:
bass_guitar would already put in evidence the fact that said instrument is an electric bass instead of having to create a separate tag for it. Acoustic basses are a fork of the bass guitar so in my opinion it should be paired with bass_guitar if such art is present, but that's not my final choice.

bass guitar is already mutually exclusive with guitar unless both are present in the same picture, as noted in the tag's wiki. The problem is that most people don't bother to differentiate between them. Feel free to remove the guitar/electric guitar tags where they don't belong (a good place to start is the electric_guitar bass_guitar search.

Thank you for the quick reply, I'll try my best to keep a control over that but I'm next to sure that I won't be able to cover all bases being a one man, and it is pretty saddening to realize that most people don't really care, but alas, can't do anything about that I think.

Quick question to get out of the way since I think it's worth asking given the thread: Is it possible to add tags to differentiate a specific guitar/bass model/brand if they were recognizable enough to do so? eg. epiphone_casino, gibson_thunderbird, rickenbacker_330, ltd. The fact that things such as motorcycles and cars have specific tags for specific models made me think about that.

Yes, just like we have various tags for recognizable electric guitars (les paul, etc), it's fine to have them for bass guitars as well.

Reason: Also since we're in theme, I'm requesting an alias for the les paul since all other guitar models we're using have the manifacturer in the tag name.

In my opinion it's best to leave it as is, the Les Paul body can easily be made and sold with changes as minor as just the shape of the headstock, in fact it's extremely easy to confuse a Les Paul clone/copy from looking at a photo of its body with the headstock off-shot. The tag would also bring problems with said 1:1 copies such as LTD copies for example, and this post that I found: post #3707125.

Instruments such as the Epiphone Casino and the Fender Mustang don't have these issues because makers can't copy the body designs due to legal issues, they always have to make changes to their bodies in order to avoid lawsuits from the respective original makers, which makes a Casino or a Mustang instantly recognizable as an Epiphone/Fender product. I know Squier exists but that's still Fender.

mass update gibson_explorer -> explorer_(guitar)

Reason: A lot of makers have made (some still do) Explorers that are remarkably close and sometimes almost identical to Gibson's (notably ESP and Kramer). The change of the tag would avoid confusion for any future posts containing it, I know it has a really low count and not many people care, but given the rise in popularity for copyrights such as Bang Dream!, it might be wise avoiding any trouble while tagging a recognisable guitar if there were to be more influx on such type of art pieces.
