There are no special rules for Chinese users. You can only upgrade via credit/debit card.

The only alternative to paying yourself is asking someone else to gift you an upgrade, but that person will have to pay via credit/debit card too.

You can use Visa and Mastercard and stuff like that. If your card belongs to some kind of China-only system, then no.

The easiest way to find out is just to try it. If the payment site doesn’t accept your type of card, it will tell you.
