[REJECTED] Tag alias: yuu-gi-ou -> yuugiou

Posted under Tags

tag alias #15777 yuu-gi-ou -> yuugiou has been rejected.

Reason: Other accepted aliases for the yuu-gi-ou tag include various (non-)hyphenisations of the official English romanisation: ie. yugioh and yu-gi-oh are both valid. Yet yuugiou isn't versus yuu-gi-ou. Might also want to include the exclamation point variant: yuugiou!

EDIT: The tag alias yuu-gi-ou -> yuugiou (forum #154076) has been rejected by @Type-kun.

Alright, let's make this clear...

Currently the main tag is this, with hyphens:

(with other tags spelled this way: yuu-gi-ou r, yuu-gi-ou gx etc.)

---

Apparently you want to change the main name to this, without spaces or hyphens:

(and apparently you didn't yet suggest doing the same with other tags, which would presumably result in: yuugiou r, yuugiou gx etc.)

---

That said, I'm not actually a fan of the status quo. I'd like to suggest a different name.

Of all possible spellings, I think the best one would be this, at least in my opinion:

(and naturally also yuugi ou r, yuugi ou gx etc.)

Because these are two words: "yuugi" (game) and "ou" (king).

We probably use "yuu-gi-ou" because the official logo has the kanji stylized with stars like this (遊☆戯☆王). But the normal version with stars seems common enough online.

For whatever it's worth, here are the Google search results with quotation marks:

"遊☆戯☆王" = 4,880,000 results
"遊戯王" = 39,300,000 results

In case it's relevant, the romanization "Yu-Gi-Oh!" is officially used in all regions, including the original Japanese.

At the very least, I wouldn't drop the hyphens. We keep stylistic punctuation in other titles as well (e.g. k-on! and hunter x hunter, the former of which being another copyright we've romanized in a nonstandard way).

I don't want anything; I just noticed it in passing and it looked like an inconsistency with the rest of the aliases listed for the tag, so thought I'd mention it to whatever outcome. I don't know anything in detail about YGO so the existence of R, GX, et. al. didn't occur to me.
