Hello.
Just discovered the monochrome background tag while I was approving some posts.
Most posts seem to fit under simple background, however then there is stuff like post #3018620 which fits more halftone background.
I'd prpose to change the exceptions to their corresponding correct tag and alias monochrome background to simple background afterwards.

Monochrome background should be for images where the foreground is not monochrome but the background is - a specific type of partially colored, if you were, which gives a similar effect to blurry background (although they usually aren't) and definitely warrants its own tag. If anything, the simple background stuff should just be removed (with simple background added where it isn't already).
Examples of the tag used on such images as described previously include post #2859668, post #2741647, post #2026159 and most images with this tag with an ID of less than 2 million. These do not fall under simple background and most of them are not halftone backgrounds either.
Many of the posts with this tag have highly detailed backgrounds colored in a single hue, like post #1669458, post #2054084 (rating:q), or post #2305164. How else should we tag these? Monochrome background is a lot less ambiguous here than tags like partially colored, which is often used for foreground characters as in post #2792103 or post #2977204.

Then I'd say you should make a wiki page about it since it gets often misued for simply backgrounds.

I will do that and also remove the simple background images at the same time once I am able to remove tags. Unless someone else does it or comes up with a valid reason not to in the meanwhile.
