[Bulk Update] Loose socks that aren't socks

Posted under Tags

remove implication loose_socks -> socks

Link to request

These are very often kneehighs (at the time of writing this includes 5 of the latest 6 images with the tag), sometimes over-kneehighs or occasionally even thighhighs (eg. post #829996 - note that loose thighhigh is used for something else entirely).

Given that kneehighs have not been meant to be tagged with socks for the last 7 years, and things going over the knee for even longer, and that these images are polluting the socks tag.

Some relevant discussions:
topic #4894 (making kneehighs and socks separate)
topic #3807 (agreeing what loose socks actually are for, which is a specific style of "sock" -note that this was before the above topic- with no particular reference to its length)

The implication appears to have originally been made with no discussion.

EDIT: The bulk update request #1507 (forum #143842) has been approved by @NWF_Renim.

Loose socks seems to be a specific type of sock in Japanese subculture fashion. I believe they should be considered their own type of sock, which may vary in length from "socks" to "kneehigh" but may be either.

Could someone point to examples of what posts would fall under this proposed extension of "loose legwear?" The legs in the example given from the OP don't even appear to be socks, they look like two pant legs since that stop short of the shoes and do not envelope the feet.

-1, loose socks has an intuitive meaning already for a specific type of socks in otaku and Japanese teen fashion. I'm not aware even of any 'loose socks' manufactured that go past the knee length. I think this style is distinct enough from loose-fitting or baggy longer-length socks and are composed of different material. I think sure, kneehighs/thighhighs may be oversized, pulled down, and dangled, but that's different from being designed to be liberally loose and baggy.

Is that -1 to the original proposal or to the proposal of a new name that iridescent slime proposed?

From the rest of the comment it seems the latter given that you actually say yourself that it can be kneehigh in length, but you don't actually specify. If it is the latter then to be honest I agree - this was something I had considered before making the proposal but as you say (and as I meant to indicate in the OP with that comment about "loose thighhighs") the tag is for a specific style of sock, and "loose socks" is their actual name.

Things going beyond the knees are generally questionable as to whether or not they count as loose socks (e.g post #885 which could be either loose socks or loose leg warmers - and is tagged with both) but that wasn't the motivation for the proposal, which is the sheer abundance of kneehighs which rightly have the loose socks tag.

My apologies, honestly I really just glazed through it and found myself strongly against the proposal of "loose legwear"

For the actual request in question, cannot agree more +1 for removing the implication of loose socks to socks
