nonamethanks brought up something in forum #141842 that has been an issue for quite a while and that is the incorrect use of basic human feature tags like nose, ears and fingers. There are more of those, of course.
These tags are supposed to be used only when they are the focus of an image because tagging them on every post with humans (or other creatures) would make them completely useless. Yet they are constantly misused, usually by inexperienced taggers who follow the “tag what you see” maxim.
These should all be renamed to *_focus (like nose_focus) and the original tags should be made do-no-use tags. That will make them more intuitive, curb misuse and they’re easier to clean, too. They would go well with tags like solo_focus and male_focus (and the ridiculous but extremely fitting tank_focus). Bonus: I won’t be possible to use these generic tags as padding if we implement some kind of “Most Valuable Tagger/Updater/User”.
Incomplete list of relevant tags:
- nose → nose_focus
- ears → ear_focus
- fingers → finger_focus
- mouth → mouth_focus†
- eyes → eye_focus† and extra_eyes
- hands → hand_focus
- feet → foot_focus (apparently not the same as pov_feet)
- hair → detached_hair (topic #14649); I don’t think hair_focus is necessary.
- pov_ass → ass_focus (topic #7900)
- legs → leg_focus
What else is missing from this list?
† mouth and eyes are a bit weird because they’re used for different things: focus and unusual placement (and amount). That should be split up anyway, IMO.
Edit: Added tags mentioned by nonamethanks.
