They are distinct enough to deserve their own tags imo, but maybe have them implicate church.

+1 for this. topic #7447 seemed to ask for an implication but I couldn't find a point where it turned into an alias.

+1 to the cathedral one, but what's the visible difference between a chapel and a church?

A chapel is basically a small church that’s part of a larger complex, like a school, asylum, hospital or large cemetery. A church is usually larger, either standing by itself or being the main structure of a complex with smaller structures around it, like a parish hall or small cemetery.

Indeed, yet there can be free-standing chapels. Particularly in mediaeval Europe when the lord of a manor didn't want to go through endless snow to the parish church in winter, and so built his own chapel in the grounds.
