Just a proposition. On the other hand, we could just nuke it altogether since it's a not oft used tag. One could essentially say anything photoshop uncensored would fit it.

Would actually better in hindsight to nuke it. Think I've "populated" the tag on some post, but photoshop + uncensored would cover it, actually. Would also reduce tag noise.

Mmm, in the case of a nuke I think it would be better to have an alias to either photoshop or uncensored then, since it might be repopulated.

Well, if we'd do that, then I would suggest to alias it to photoshop, since not all uncensored post are decensored, but all decensored posts are photoshopped.
But yeah, it looks like a rather uneccessary tag, despite topic #13394. Looks like my request back then wasn't really thought through <<. Or we can redo the alias ( @NWF_Renim )

I would prefer it be aliased to photoshop then, yarr.

Rather than photoshop, I think that decensored should be aliased to uncensored.

Actually, I always thought that this alias was already in place. Only now, due to this topic, I've noticed that the aliased tag is descensored. This looks like some kind of error.

We already had decensored -> uncensored alias previously, but it got removed during last discussion to see if separating them could be useful in practice.

To be honest, I never understood why we had the decensored -> uncensored alias. An uncensored + photoshop tag search could very well bring up posts where the altered portion isn't the censor, particularly in the case of untagged nude filters.

Following those discussions, it seems it hasn't been. Currently, photoshop is used in lieu of the decensored tag perhaps because it's easier and more intuitive to use, as the first thing that comes to mind if a post has been altered by another person is 'photoshop'.

I suppose if an alias isn't needed then we can finally put the tag to rest through a mass update instead (whether that be performed through a request or by user script). It's kind of dawning on me that if decensored was never popular to begin with, then there's rare likelihood it'll see the light of day again.

Why nuke a perfectly good tag just because it isn't popular? I thought we decided against doing things like that.

If you want to find decensor edits, photoshop uncensored is the search to use, not decensored. Decensored is useless unless someone volunteers to populate it. If no one wants to populate it - and I kind of doubt anyone does - then the tag serves no practical purpose.

Tags are supposed to be intuitive to use. As Provence echoed earlier, the deimplication has still shown the tag to be of little use -- all it is is noise. If it saw more popularity, then maybe we could consider it, but as it stands, even if there are uncensored works that aren't necessarily decensored though Photoshop (and instead Photoshop is on something else...?) That case is so exceedingly rare that those misses can be accepted.

It's far from being 'perfectly good'. A tag's usefulness is really only dictated by other users' willingness to adopt it.

Well, while not every uncensored post is a decensor, one could say that that every decensored post is a photoshop. So at first, the alias to photoshop makes more sense, but it seems that this is past now. I can life with it.
So if we don't create an alias at all, then I'm in favor of replacing the tag with photoshop uncensored and leave a notice in its wiki page behind: That one should not use this tag, but instead photoshop uncensored. It would have the same chance getting populated as the female tag.

You mean every decensored post is a photoshop. decensored implies that someone else has modified the image to remove censoring provided by the original artist/source. If the image came uncensored to begin with, maybe through either circumvention or artist just genuinely forgot, then it doesn't warrant the photoshop tag.

EDIT: The way I'll be nuking it anyway is by just running update decensored -> photoshop uncensored -decensored. Someone else can do it first if they wish.

Like I said earlier, the photoshop + uncensored combination contains results that aren't decensors. From my perusal, it may even contain a number of unmarked nude filters, which makes decensored an important distinction. If lack of usage is the problem, I can populate it myself.

Mmm... alright, I'll reconsider nuking it then, but if it still doesn't amount to much then we'll have to rethink some things a little.

After that though, the BUR needs to change to remove the mass update photoshop uncensored -> decensored part, because if we're sticking with using decensored then those implications should be in place.
