Regarding kisetsu's old Kancolle works that have the bad_id tag such as post #1926866, it seems she's re-uploaded them all onto pixiv, albeit in higher quality. Would it be best to remove the bad_id and replace the old source, re-upload the old works, or just leave the posts as they are?

Upload the better quality images, set them as the parent to the bad id images. Tag the bad id images as duplicates.

Don't change the source unless you're absolutely sure they're the same exact image. You're going to get those images falsely tagged and/or potentially flagged otherwise, which might upset some people.

If they're the exact same image, it should say "md5 already taken" when you try to upload them

Completely agree. There are already enough problems with images being changed on the source image servers leading to MD5 mismatches without the image being falsely misattributed on Danbooru.

Perhaps we should hash out what needs to be done with Bad ID's and (and MD5 mismatches), then update the wikis to provide this guidance.

Bad ID

Here are my thoughts if another source for that image is found...

1. With the same filesize and MD5 hash, then change the source field to the new source, and remove the bad_id tag.
Note: A source if legitimate if it's hosted by the original artist

The file can be checked easily enough. The MD5 hash can be checked with various websites, such as http://onlinemd5.com/ or https://md5file.com/calculator .

2. With a different filesize and the image is inferior, then just ignore it and do not upload it.

3. With a different filesize and the image is superior, then upload it if you consider the image worthy, then parent the original to the upload and tag the original upload with the duplicate tag.

MD5 Mismatch

Same as 2. and 3. above for Bad ID.

Thoughts?
