Locking Tags

Posted under General

Hello :3.
I've just contacted NWF Renim if it is possible to lock the tags on uploads and the answer is no.
Now I wouldn't bother with that, but regarding what is happening with post #1 repeatedly, I want to ask if it should be somehow possible to lock tags. It could prevent such vandalism.
And similar to locking the rating or notes, it could be unlocked by every Builder if they think a post still deserves to be tagged.
Thoughts?

I say yes, even if the feature only serves to be useful in rare cases like those -- although this could be more frequent than I imagine.

I wonder though, can members edit tags to remove loli/shota to temporarily see an image and circumvent the system? Although this may just be a really obvious answer, I've never tried it from what I remember. Could be useful for that, or maybe posts tagged loli/shota are edit locked to member accounts in the first place.

Ah, I see, thanks for letting me know. It doesn't seem too difficult to implement, I think, then...

There should be a builder status level "lock" though. Builders are trusted not to vandalize tags anyway. It's the same power we have with editing locked pages in the wiki, after all.

Isn't tag vandalism rare? I don't think that having a tag lock feature would be necessary unless there was tag vandalism on a daily basis.
It would be a nice feature, sure, but currently not needed.
Why is it that only gold level users have stripped post #1 of its tags, though?

Seems to me especially rare. I've only ever seen it happen maybe 3-5 times during my activity here, and the few users that do do that frequently usually get banned in a matter of days.

Is it maybe a bug though? Could try Dmailing those users and seeing if they did that intentionally or not.

I know for a fact that Admins can status lock posts (it's located next to the notes and rating lock). As a test, I locked post 1 on Testbooru with an Admin account, then tried to modify the tags with a Moderator account which failed.

Status locking is supposed to lock changes to status, that is, prevent flagging/appealing/deleting/undeleting/approving a post. I don't know what happened there but it shouldn't prevent changes to tags.

Not normally, but technically it is possible using the API. But there already exists a userscript for viewing loli posts that such people are more likely to use.

This. Vandalism is rare and it takes 2 seconds to revert when it does happen.

These accounts don't have a history of vandalism either. It seems more like some kind of mistake while trying to start a tag search. Notice how one person replaced the tags with user:tm4c123.

Also locking tags could cause problems with aliases/implications. Aliases/implications that aren't part of a BUR are run under the requester's account, so if they can't edit a post then the alias/implication would fail.
