Continuation of what I did some time ago: topic #10553

I made a list of tags that contain unicode characters, since they're generally not supposed to be used. These tags have 1 or more posts in them. Some of them use invisible characters or letters that look non-unicode.

Given how long it's been since I've done this I'm impressed how few there are.

I think non-ASCII tags ought to just be forbidden. Would there be any objections to that?

I've pruned the list a couple of times since the Unicode tags played havoc with my program... :( I'm impressed that there are that many, given the last time I did that was back in October.

No objections from me... if it can't be typed using the standard English QWERTY keyboard, then it shouldn't be allowed as a tag IMO.

These tags exceed 63 characters (and have at least one post). For the sake of having tags being reasonably compact, maybe they can be shortened?

Most of those are series titles which really shouldn't be shortened imo.

But what's with the precure characters? Do they really need both (eg) bomber girls precure and happinesscharge precure! in their names?

Any objections to changing hakkon_(jidouhanbaiki_ni_umarekawatta_ore_wa_meikyuu_wo_samayou) to just hakkon and rammisu_(jidouhanbaiki_ni_umarekawatta_ore_wa_meikyuu_wo_samayou) to rammisu? In both cases they are the only character with this name on the site.

Don't shorten those titles. You have have shortened titles aliased to them but don't shorten the long ones themselves.

Reason: Unicode -> ASCII of OP's list. This list could use a double-check, all I did was strip out the accented characters. Some tags remain because of conflicts, they need to be renamed some way or another: dié, azalée, rosé, mikami。.

Also I finally got around to writing a patch that would enforce better rules for tag names: issue #2882. It would forbid these things in tags:

• Blank names (e.g. ___).
• Non-ASCII characters (Japanese text).
• Non-printable characters (e.g. control characters < 0x20).
• Leading or trailing underscores, or consecutive underscores (e.g. _*, *_, *__*). Reason: _foo__bar_ and foo_bar both render as foo bar in the tag list.
• Leading - or ~, or * (-foo, ~foo, foo*bar). Currently these things are silently stripped, but that means tagging a post with e.g. *-foo tags the post with the invalid tag -foo.
• Tag type prefixes (so that e.g. character:character:hatsune_miku doesn't create the literal tag character:hatsune_miku).
• Metatags (order:score, user:evazion, etc).

Will Japanese text still be allowed in pool names? Often when a new series pool is created, it's named after the Japanese title until the title can be translated.

Yes, the above-mentioned fix only affects tags and posts.
