Adding "artist commentary" to uploads

This has bothered me for a while too. But I just looked at it and it seems not so hard to add, so I'll take a shot at it.

Good luck. My request is in issue #2561; from what I see in the uploads controller, artist commentary is fetched along with other data by running the URL through all rewrite strategies. Maybe that code should be extracted to base rewrite strategy if it's to be reused.

I add commentary by default because a) it's easy to do when using the bookmarklet (and harder to do after the upload as I need to cut and, paste carefully), and b) more often than not, if it's not just a link, it usually helps someone else tag by adding context to the picture via titling it or by describing the picture and characters involved

I wouldn't insist it be mandatory, but the bookmarklet makes, it easier to add it. . We can always ignore or delete commentary later with less effort than properly adding it after the fact.

I do the same thing. RaisingK's bot adds it anyway, so it's not like it matters that much. I doubt commentary request is that seriously used anymore given how populated the tag is. We could just link to topic #7805 in the commentary request and translation request wiki pages if someone seriously wants to see something translated, I think.

Yes.
I also saw RaisingK's bot adding the commentary sometimes.
I don't know how frequent this bot is though. But it sure makes things easier and less mandatory for the uploader.

Be like me, adding commentaries but didn't bother to add commentary request. Mostly because I forget though, for there is no "Add commentary request" checkbox on initial tagging box.

Created issue #2794 with my suggestion.

Generally daily, assuming I'm home and not having computer/internet issues.

Getting annoyed seeing four bolded lines reminding me something when I upload now. Can we have the option to close those?

For Builder or user with unlimited upload abilities, this should be an option. They should already be doing these things that are listed there: Tagging, Bookmarklet(?), maybe Commentary and the self-upload part falls apart for this user group.

Ehh, two of the lines are still relatively new additions, it's just that one is blatantly obvious to most builder+, and the other is only a recent new trend because of the information that it provides. I'd say yeah there should be an option to hide it for users with unrestricted ups, but perhaps there's already a way to do it with custom CSS. And even then I still think it's important to see, especially if there comes some new change to how we should upload.

I think they should fix the "bug" though, where if there is no description the title can't automatically be added. That always bothered me a little bit. That in addition to fetching comms from nicoseiga.

EDIT: I think that 4 lines does barely push it though. 5+ would be rather annoying to deal with.

I guess I should also mention it here: an option for fetching the commentary from the source or from another post has been added.

If the post already has commentary, it will fill in the blank fields, but not overwrite the existing fields. Instead it will append the new commentary to the end of the description. This is to facilitate including commentary from multiple sources. What you can do is fetch the commentary from say, Pixiv, then switch the source to Twitter and fetch again, which will then include both commentaries in the description field.

I still haven't gotten around to addressing the commentary title bug yet, or supporting commentary for other sites.

Is this the bug where it won't fetch the commentary if the post has just a Title and no commentary, or is that a different bug...?

I believe so, given that if you actually use the fetch commentary button even while the description field is blank in the original source, it will get you the title.

It's a very nice feature, I've started to use it more often now since it beats having to open a new tab.
