Tag suggestion: alternate_color_santa_costume

Posted under Tags

I've been going through the santa_costume tag and tagging the alternate colors other than red, but I remembered how I did the same for school_swimsuits, and most of those colors were aliased to alternate_color_school_swimsuit. Since a santa_costume is predominantly red, would it be better to create an alternate_color_santa_costume tag to go with the theme of using colors other than the 'default' one(s) for a well-known article of clothing? If so, then I can request a BUR aliasing the other tagged colors to this one.

Would people automatically know what alternate_color alone is referring to if the character's own color palette is normal? I figured that alternate_color_* type of tags would be specific to refer to a type of costume that is well-known with certain colors, but these have unusual colors. Like with alternate_color_school_swimsuit, many know that the common colors are blue, black, and white, so that tag aliases all of the other colors under an umbrella tag. Note that I had made the implication request in #forum #90524 three years ago, before the BUR system was implemented. My suggestion for alternate_color_santa_costume is in the same vein as that.

Hmm... did not know about the existing alternate_color_school_swimsuit tag or its implications...

However, continuing on in this vein begs the question, what other costumes would need to have specialized alternate_color_* tags based upon that logic.

  • alternate_color_maid_costume ...?
  • alternate_color_bear_costume ...? (or any other the other animal tags)
  • alternate_color_miko_costume ...?
  • alternate_color_witch_costume ...?

...and so on, and so forth...

That's a lot of specialized tags. My preference would be to use the alternate color tag instead for costume color variations to make tagging simpler, but that's just my opinion.

Would like to hear what others think about this...

The alternate_color_school_swimsuit tag only exists because it can be paired with yellow_swimsuit, red_swimsuit, etc. to make the search more specific. There is no such option for santa costumes, so I'd be against any aliases that would make it harder to search for a specific color.

But isn't that the same as red_swimsuit school_swimsuit? I see that it can be paired with any color, but is it really necessary to create a whole new tag for those? One could also tag every school swimsuit with blue swimsuit and have the same result, only in reverse: school_swimsuit -blue_swimsuit.

Not exactly, as you get results like post #1146272 and post #1007053.

You would then miss posts that have both blue school swimsuits and the "alternate" colors.

And how is that different from santa costume? You can only use that for swimsuits, because there are already existing tags.
But if someone has the idea to start populating the tag blue santa costume (or any other color), then we'd get the same results.
Since this is hypothetical and one doesn't needs tags for something that doesn't yet exist: Would then someone populate "color_santa_costume"?

Compared to school_swimsuit, santa_costume would be a much easier search for specific colors if the alternate colors were aliased to an umbrella tag. Swimsuits have a huge amount of variety such as bikinis, one-pieces, school swimsuits, competition swimsuits, etc., but there's really only one way to design a santa costume. Its basic components are a santa_hat (usually) and clothing that has fluffy trim on its edges (at minimum). Therefore, I don't think searching for a specific colored santa costume would be as complicated as finding a specific colored swimsuit so long as an umbrella tag exists that gathers all of the alternate colored santa costumes. Then other colored tags like *_hat, *_shirt, *_skirt, etc, can help with finding specific images with that colored costume.

By the way, I went through every image tagged with santa_costume and tagged the ones with *_santa_costume for different colors. Therefore if any kind of BUR is made, it'll be easier to find the posts with specific colors. The only absent colors are grey and brown.

That's my point. The variety of different components that could make up the santa costume makes this more difficult to search everything at once than the equivalent with school swimsuits. Why would a ~blue_hat ~blue_shirt ~blue_skirt ~blue_dress alternate_color_santa_costume search be preferable to just typing in blue_santa_costume?

So are you suggesting that the various colors be implicated to santa_costume instead of aliased?

If so, then I would want to think of doing the same for alternate_color_school_swimsuit.

So if there aren't any objections, I'd like to make a BUR like this:

imply black_santa_costume -> santa_costume
imply blue_santa_costume -> santa_costume
imply pink_santa_costume -> santa_costume

And so on. The only colors not covered are red, grey and brown.

create implication orange_santa_costume -> santa_costume
create implication pink_santa_costume -> santa_costume
create implication purple_santa_costume -> santa_costume
create implication yellow_santa_costume -> santa_costume

Implication requests for colored santa_costumes that don't have existing implications yet.

Red is not covered because it's the 'default' color, while brown and grey are absent because I went through the santa_costume tag and didn't find any images fitting those colors.
