Typhoon vs Hurricane

The terms hurricane and typhoon are regionally specific names for a strong tropical cyclone. In other words, they are essentially the same thing, and the difference in terminology is entirely based on their location. Given that they are visually indistinguishable from one another, shouldn't they be merged into a single tag?

As an aside, we also have a cyclone_(weather) tag with three posts. I'm not sure about the usefulness of this tag, as "cyclone" can apply to rotating weather phenomena at any scale, from the largest typhoons to the smallest tornadoes.

I agree merging everything into a single tag makes sense. I don't have a strong preference for which one we use.

We can ditch cyclone_(weather) as well. Of the three posts one is also tagged hurricane and the other two can be tagged tornado. In general hurricane could use some clean-up, several of the posts appear to be tornados (post #1565803, post #892907, post #1180570).

There's also whirlwind, which is another name for tornado, but appears to be used for any visible wind effect. Waterspout is a tornado over water, but only two of the posts depict that, the rest are just large columns of water. Might be an opportunity to clean or merge there as well.
