Commenting

Posted under General

Just a general question, why do comments get hidden so much?
I go back to see if my comments got replied to, and they're mostly hidden, even though most are just jokes or mild art criticisms.

If we're not allowed to say stuff like that, then what are we allowed to say, then?

By default a single downvote hides a comment, so all it takes is one guy disagreeing with you. Pretty silly, but you can go to My Account > Settings and set your comment threshold to -3 to make it more sensible.

Danbooru has a large user base, so you will run into people that disagrees with you or are simply trolls. If you are being inappropriate, a mod will talk to you about. It's silly to get into the mentality that your comments are downvoted because what you said are not allowed by Danbooru and the mods are hiding your comments.

I'm looking at your comments and I don't see that many hidden expect for a few like this:

If you don't want to get downvoted then comment in the same manner as you would if you were talking to people in real life and don't be so abrasive and vulgar.

I don't understand why some people get so offended with downvoted comments, we all have something to disagree sometimes right?

Of course we do, but that's the point why comments shouldnt get hidden so easily.

If you're concerned about not being able to see your own posts, heed evazion's advice and lower your comment threshold to the point that they are all visible. Problem solved.

Alternatively, follow the rules described in howto:comment and you'll probably find that your comments get fewer downvotes. The Danbooru community appreciates proper grammar and spelling. "Witty" one-liners and general frivolity, not so much. We take ourselves pretty seriously.
