Pixiv whitecube redesign

Posted under General

@BrokenEagle98: Yeah, I'd leave them in the old format. I wouldn't count on whitecube URLs staying stable, I expect they will drop the /whitecube/ part eventually once they fully deploy the new design. But the old format I'm sure they will continue supporting to avoid breaking links to their site.

And honestly, I think it'd make more sense to do this kind of URL normalization server-side instead of in bots. The site already does a lot of normalization server-side so it doesn't make sense to leave some of it up to bots.

So how do I get to see this new white cube design? I don't see it when I'm logged in.

It's being rolled out slowly. (random, apparently)

FYI you can now opt out of whitecube with a link at the very bottom of the page. It'll take you back to the homepage but afterwards all whitecube links will get redirected to the old layout.

I'm necroing this thread because I got hit by this forced whitecube "beta".

And yes, as Type-kun has pointed out, it looks like the big wigs who ran Pixiv thought it would be a good idea to try to shoehorn a meant-for-mobile webpage design and aesthetic to the desktop version of the site. I've noticed tons of websites resorting to this (I also want to add that I detest the flat "redesigns" of modern websites).

Thankfully they reverted to the old layout. When I visited pixiv a week or two ago, they sent me a notice saying that they rolled back the whitecube rollout because of a "problem with the way it was released" or some silly nonsense. I can't remember the exact wording but one thing I DO remember is that there was nothing mentioning how it was "due to the userbase hating how sluggish and awkward it was for desktop users".

Sounds rather typical of websites to throw some cognitive dissonance to half-admit they screwed up.

Dunno about you folks but if I browse the original pixiv for too long it causes my browser to chug and I have to restart it. The white cube design was *WORSE* than that. Did they test the website on a multiprocessor overspecced workstation or something?

This too shall pass. The Flat stuff will become so dated 'designers' will denounce it.

Also apart from it being radically hideous, I rather liked when different sites looked unique and not cookie-cutter minimalist blocks of typing paper.
