Are the 1girl/solo tags useful?

Posted under Tags

I only use the solo tag because I forget that chartags:1 exists when I'm looking for pictures of just one person.

EDIT: I just remembered that chartags:1 would exclude pictures where that person was cosplaying.

I wouldn't remove this tag because everytime I search with this tag I always take more tags besides it. So I don't see wheere this would go if we just decrease this or stop tagging uploads with these tags.
If it should be possible with the search function, wouldn't it be better to increase the max. amount of usable tag for visitors/members and gold users?

While I agree that both the 1girl and solo tags are both ridiculously bloated, I think it'd be better to keep them since they make the most sense. I mean, tagging an image showing one girl by herself with 1girl and solo would be the simplest thing. If the 1girl tag is changed, wouldn't that mean we'd have to change the 2girls tag, the 1boy tag and all the other tags along those lines to be consistent?

I see value in the 1girl and solo tags. Unless there's a database or a storage issue that makes it a problem to have such ubiquitous tags, I see no reason to change things, especially since it doesn't seem to be a problem to get people to tag posts with that tag.

If we don't have those tags, then it will be necessary to ensure that every single post that doesn't have 1girl or not solo be tagged with a tag indicating as much, a difficult proposition considering that that must be over 500K posts.

There are plenty of pictures where 1girl is applicable and solo is not. Also users with a tag search limit, even if it's a large number like 6, would not be able to find some images currently tagged with 1girl if that tag was removed.

If we redefined tags so that multiple_girls meant "not 1girl", or we had a "multiple_characters" tag then perhaps, as they would just be the negation of 1girl and solo respectively. I am in favor of keeping the current tags as they are more intuitive to use.
