Regarding the post relationship in comic posts

Posted under General

So according to the Parent and Child Posts Guidelines:

Choosing the Best Parent

The Parent post should be considered in this order:

Most Original, as opposed to confirmed derivatives.
Most Exploitable variation of the post for creating derivatives.
Most Complete, as opposed to cropped posts.
Highest Resolution.
Cleanest, containing the least watermarking.

The most original, unaltered and earliest version of a post should be considered the "parent" in a post relationship, not the revisioned and more recent version of that post, or at least when it comes to comic post.
Yet I don't understand why it is the other way around in reality.

It is not only the case by comics, but "normal" uploads as well: revisions are done by the artist to improve the image's quality. Und that would be a more "complete" post.
Derivative means that another artist has redone this work and maybe improved but since it isn't from the same artist who has done the original, it can't becoma the parent.
The last phrase would refer to posts like post #2156909.

To be honest, I never even read the guideline until now, so thanks for clearing that up.
But I always believe the earlier post should be the parent in a post relationship.
Parents give birth to children right? Not the other way around.

While that may be true, you want the best example to be the one people go to first, like the improved versions, or the ones preserving the most details. Perhaps the term is a bit weak in that it proposes a sense of the time posted, when what matters is whether the related image is superior or inferior. However, renaming the terms for this primary/secondary relationship is unnecessary when it's understood for its intent.

That'd be the case: The revision" post is from another artist.
But so the one who gives birth to the picture revises it. So it's practically the same pictures, bur improved but the same artist.
Besides: Parents tend to have a bigger score-/favcount than their children. And it'd be only distorting when the better version doen't get the scorepoints because it's the child.
