Wouldn't a better term be dropped_ceiling rather than tile?
Tiles would be the individual pieces that may be inserted, not to mention that tiles are more for the type that you put on the floor or wall (or in some cases such as showers, the ceiling), usually made of ceramic or glass materials.
From a technical standpoint, I would would agree with Azuretan that there should indeed be a difference between dropped_ceilings and tile_ceilings; One is made up of stone/clay/glass tiles stuck in place with adhesive, while the other is a series of tiles made of a white foam-like substance hung from a series of metal supports. While both technically made up of things called "tiles", the latter bares virtually no similarity in materials or installation to what people would normally think of as a tiled surface. And you certainly won't see drop ceiling tiles installed on a wall or floor, or anywhere besides a dropped ceiling for that matter.
Frankly though, the only posts under the tile_ceiling tag that don't appear to be drop ceilings are post #841134 and possibly post #326037. Which makes sense since you can't really have a drop ceiling in a bath-house due to the humidity and steam.
Still might be worth dividing them up, but there are only 26 posts under the tag, and I'm not sure most people know the differences off hand or would look at a ceiling and be able to/care to tell the difference.
I see no reason to separate them at all, so I'm in favor of lumping them all under tile_ceiling. Drop ceiling can be inaccurate, given that ceiling tiles (which can be made of tin, plastic, mineral fiber, and the like) can be installed either directly to the ceiling using adhesives and/or nails/staples or they can be installed using a grid (drop ceiling). Unless the drop ceiling's grid was obvious, you may not be able to distinguish from one that is directly applied to the ceiling versus one that is held in place by a metal frame work. So calling them a tile ceiling will always be correct, but calling them a drop ceiling may be completely inaccurate unless there was something visually present to indicate the type of ceiling it is. Given that none of the images under the tag have anything to go by outside of location, one would only be making a complete guess on if it is a drop ceiling or not.

Edit: Also +1 for the implications. We'd tag a linoleum tile floor as tiles (external link example) and tile_floor, so what the tiles are made out of should have no bearing on whether we call them tiles or not.
