Tag suggestion: bandaid_on_hair

Posted under General

Many of the people we have banned for "helping" the wiki didn't ask for permission and we know how well that went.

This case seems fine, I could have just greenlit it straight away if you had actually provided some samples.

As long as what you're doing is easy to revert, I say go for it first and ask for feedback second. I'd rather see people take the initiative in getting shit done than discussing it the forums endlessly until the thread dies and nothing ever happens.

But yes, obviously you need to use common sense, which is admittedly not-so-common.

Is the "hair" important or could it be "bandaid_on_head" instead (for bald characters)?

You mean posts like post #1266682, right?

And/Or maybe a general tag for all those cross-shaped bandages that aren't real, but that are supposed to show that someone is hurt (just like the ones in post #1266682 or post #1709617). Those that usually appear instantly without the character actually getting treatment.

not on hair: post #1651057, post #1735671

It's never a bad idea to ask the forum. If the proposal is bad, we'll straight-up tell you why it's bad (too vague, covered by tag combo, etc.). If it's good, there's still things that can be improved, like the tag's name, drafting a wiki, setting some aliases/implications, and so on. Not to mention spreading awareness; some of our most active uploaders and gardeners also regularly read the forum so it doesn't need to be a one-person effort, and if someone stumbles upon your tag and think it's a bad tag, it has a chance of getting nuked, which is wasted time for you.

It's more encompassing, though I dread the Literalists spamming it on bandaid_on_nose/bandaid_on_face and the inevitable implication request (OBVIOUS HUURRRRR).

That's exactly the sort of thing I was picturing. Looking at it again the bandage doesn't look like a bandaid, but I'm not sure what else to call it. Maybe have bandage_on_hair (or head) as the main tag, with bandaid_on_hair as an alias? For the crossed bandages, maybe cross_bandage would be a good name for it.

What they're likely depicting is pretty much identical to a bandaid. Instead of using two preassembled adhesive strips with sterile pads (ie a bandaid), you have two strips of medical tape that are likely holding down a sterile pad placed underneath them. Though visually they're likely simplified and do not depict the presence of a sterile pad, but depending on the make, even preassembled bandaids may not have the sterile pad appear very well (external link - example and external link - example 2 ). In short what is depicted is more or less the difference between a machine-made bandaid and a handmade bandaid (made from what would be suggested to have in any first aid kit).

External Link example of medical tape used to hold a sterile pad down.

Also according to wikipedia medical/surgical tape is commonly white because they usually contain zinc oxide to prevent infection.

Just to bring it up, there does currently exist a crossed_bandaids tag.

Using crossed_bandaids would really help to avoid the whole head/face/nose/mask/head bump/hat tag proliferation issue. Ultimately the location of the bandaids isn't important, so there's no need to codify it in the tag name.

Wow. I was wondering to hell every time I try to tag that. Mainly because I wasn't sure to tag it "bandaid" or "bandage."

Anyways, I prefer the crossed_bandaids and your suggestion Ironbottom.
