Uncheck the "Is active" checkbox to delete an artist. (It's only temporary deletion and can later be undone.)

Next to each artist's name there were a bunch of letters including "E" (to edit) and "D" to delete. I can see how the new system is good in the case of accidental deletions, but it can be pretty unwieldy in the case of artists with aliases.
