Now that I know how to properly obtain the highest quality images from Bcy now, it is now best for me to have some of my compressed "noop.image" uploads replaced with the proper version (assuming they weren't bad id'ed of course).

Just upload it separately. And yes, if you set the "source" field on the upload page to the post url then danbooru will fetch the first image in the tumblr post. Danbooru automatically fixes the source on upload if you use the batch bookmarklet, so you do not need to do it manually.
